All four companies admitted to the list for the first time was from China, pushing out Canada's First Quantum and Teck Resources. China now provides 12 of the top 40 listed mining firms versus six from Canada despite one Chinese firm dropping out.

The US is home to 21 Inc., a Bitcoin mining company based in California. 21 runs a large amount of miners, but also sells low powered bitcoin miners as part of their 21 Bitcoin computer.
China Shenhua Energy, China's state-owned coal mining enterprise with estimated revenue of $32.1bn in the year ending in December 2013, ranks as the world's sixth biggest mining company. The Chinese miner produced 318.1mt of coal and sold 514.8mt of coal at an average price of CNY392.3 ($62.37) during the year.
